BESS Fundamentals Course: Technology, Application & Design Successfully Completed

Prospek Lestari and Sustainable & Innovation Engineering successfully organised a two-day BESS Fundamentals Course, bringing together industry and academic participants to explore technology, applications and design of battery energy storage systems.

20 December 2025

The two-day BESS Fundamentals Course: Technology, Application & Design was successfully completed, jointly organised by Sustainable & Innovation Engineering Sdn. Bhd. and Prospek Lestari Sdn. Bhd.

The course provided participants with a comprehensive overview of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), covering core concepts, system design principles, and practical applications. Participants were also exposed to real industry data and performance indicators including State of Health (SOH), Round-Trip Efficiency (RTE), and HV Box Single Line Diagrams (SLD), aligned with current industry practices.

Industry and Academic Participation

This edition of the programme brought together 17 participants from both industry and academia, with the majority being professionals involved in Solar PV projects. The diverse participation created a valuable exchange of perspectives between technical practitioners and academic researchers.

The discussions also explored the evolving role of BESS in Malaysia’s energy ecosystem. While the ATAP concept shares similarities with the Net Energy Metering (NEM) framework and remains positive for solar deployment, BESS continues to play an important role in supporting grid flexibility and industry applications.

Practical Industry Applications

Particular attention was given to medium-voltage (MV) industry applications such as Maximum Demand (MD) reduction and selected implementation cases including SELCO-related projects.

Special appreciation is extended to the companies that sponsored and provided BESS models for the course, enabling participants to gain hands-on exposure to real products available in the market.

We also extend our sincere gratitude to all participants for their support and engagement throughout the programme. The organisers look forward to offering the course again next year with additional modules and enhanced learning opportunities for the energy industry.
